Last Saturday was the start to returning to 40k as a regular game. I ran a 2,000 point T'au gunline list against some Necrons in a game that only lasted three turns. Results/reasoning below...

It's clobberin' time!
As I said in my last post, it's been a while since I tried to play one army/list/deck/whatever in one game actively enough to take it to the next level and compete with it. It's been so long in fact that I've had so many new players come into our LGS (Colpar's Hobbytown) that know nothing of our club's history or any of our "veterans" accomplishments, and I've gotten some pretty strange comments. Heh, kids say the damnedest things...

A Return to Form
It's been a while since I've posted here and to be honest I've toyed with the idea of either deleting/archiving this blog and starting a new one, or just continuing on. If you're reading this, you do randomly read these posts and I appreciate it greatly so I'll stick with it for now. This is going to be the biggest update post I've made in some time so if you're interested, read on after the break!

Tau at Adepticon
Another year, another Adepticon, and this time there's some shocking (not shocking) news about how well Tau did. Brace yourselves, I hope you're seated, here's the results....

Tau Won the Alamo GT, or Why That Doesn't Count At All
On May 21st and 22nd of this year, the Alamo GT took place in San Antonio, Texas, and something unprecedented happened. Tau won the GT! There were some really cool-looking armies present, noticeably several very large models (several Lords of War, FW Superheavies, etc). But, I'm not counting it as a win for the codex or the army (despite the fact that it clearly did). Why?

Tau Didn't Win 2: Electric Boogaloo
Adepticon 2016 has come and gone! It looks like the event was amazing as usual, but let's focus on a very specific part of it for a sec, the 40k Championship...

Your army is broken, Waaaaa!
Man, oh man, what a ride! Very recently Tau was the center point of conversation in the 40k community thanks to the latest ITC FAQ (as I discuss here). Then that post happened to get linked to a Dakka thread where 20 pages later people are still whining about how OP Tau are and are being extremely childish about the whole thing. But hey, that's the internet! This isn't another post about that ITC ruling but rather about generalship, practice, and other things I talked about here. So let's dive in; are Tau really overpowered? Should we all call it quits because they can't be beat?

ITC vs TAU, Round 2
Here we are, another round of Tau rulings from the Frontline Gaming guys for their ITC tournaments. Let's just skip the intro and dive right in.

Tau [don't] win again!
In reference to my most recent posts regarding Tau's new Coordinated Firepower, ITC Ruling and Coordinated Firepower, it looks like a tournament happened a month ago that may or may not have proven my point...

ITC Ruling
The ITC polls regarding the Tau Coordinated Firepower rule in the Hunter Contingent detachment are in. With only a 3% difference between the yeas and nays, the guys over at Frontline Gaming (the ones in charge of the ITC rulings) decided to rule with the majority and ban the sharing of special rules (codex or core rules) granted by the Rules As Written which I covered in my last post here. In a not-surprising sweeping majority people also showed they have little understanding of the English language by ruling against how Target Locks work (and other interactions including Gargantuan Creatures, etc) in conjunction with the Coordinated Firepower rule. So, what does this mean for YOU? Well the answer is not so simple...

LOL n00bs!
Warhammer 40,000 has been around for a looooong long time, in fact since 1987 when it was colloquially called Rogue Trader (that's 28 years). I'd been in their store several times before I actually started playing 40k over 20 years ago in 1995 (not too long after they introduced their 2nd edition rules) and I haven't stopped playing since. I've seen a lot of things over the years while taking part in this hobby but recently I've started to notice some interesting things happening with the player-base itself...

A New Hope
It has been a while since I've had some good news to report, and I am happy to say I have a ton of it as well as a fair amount of bad news. But fear not, this story has a happy ending...

What's in store for 2014?
So we're half-way through March of 2014, and unfortunately this is my first post of the year. I've honestly had a lot going on and over the next few months things are going to continue to be super busy for me. I also know I don't stay interested in one thing for very long, and often switch to different games or even whole genres after a little while. So, this post is all about what's in store for 2014?

A 2,000 point Tau list
I've been working on a 2,000 point Tau list for a few weeks now after my big haul, and I think I've finally settled on something competent for local play. This is the main style of list I've been wanting to build with Tau for a while, though I am using Riptides instead of Crisis Suits for now because they seem to be doing better for me at the moment. I may revisit those units later when I attempt a Farsight bomb themed list, but for now here's what I've been working on...

Tau
Over the last few weeks, hundreds of forums, blogs, and websites have been inundated with discussion of the pictures and rules rumors of the new Tau models and codex. I won't bother to copy/paste them all here (though I can provide links to the RULES RUMORS and PICTURES

What lies in store?
So a lot has been going on in the last month since I posted. Stores are closing and opening up left and right, armies are being released in rapid succession, and there's still much much more to come. But what does the future hold for my game club, myself, and the hobby as a whole?

Six tips to becoming a better 40k player
Here's a simple guide on how to become a better 40k player, and while I'll focus on 40k for the purposes of this article, this can actually apply to any game you play. If you're content with just getting a single fun, casual game in once in while, then by all means keep having fun! This article is aimed at those players who may be struggling with how to win more games without becoming the dreaded "WAAC" (Win At All Costs) player. So grab a pen, some paper, and get ready for some education!
