What lies in store?

So a lot has been going on in the last month since I posted. Stores are closing and opening up left and right, armies are being released in rapid succession, and there's still much much more to come. But what does the future hold for my game club, myself, and the hobby as a whole?

Over the last few months, Games Workshop has cranked their production into high gear, releasing amazing new miniatures for The Hobbit, Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40k. They've been cranking out Black Library novels, solid new White Dwarf issues, and of course Codexes and Army Books to match the re-release of new armies. Since 6th Edition came out in June 2012, we've gotten updates to Chaos Space Marines, Dark Angels, and Chaos Daemons twice (a White Dwarf update and a Codex in March) as well as the expansion books Crusade of Fire and Death from the Skies, which equates to something 40k related being released every two months.

Rumor has it Tau should come out in May, Apocalypse Next will come out in July, and Eldar and Black Templars will be released in September and November. With GW's ever-tightening grip on rumor control, it's impossible to say for sure what's next after Tau but assuming they keep up the fast-paced schedule, I'm sure 2013 will be jam-packed with releases regardless.

So what does that mean? Well, in combination with the extremely high prices GW has been arbitrarily assigning to model kits, I'm not sure. There's going to be a lot of interesting things for people to pick up over the next several months but we'll see if the prices affect that. I personally plan on picking up Tau when they come out this spring/summer, but if everything goes up drastically in price I may not be able to get very much of it which means it may not be worth getting if I can't pick up a solid amount of stuff for a reasonable price.

As the president of the gaming club I'm a part of, one of my responsibilities is to get people interested in new releases for the games we play, but it is becoming much harder to do. Having a ton of stuff come out fairly quickly can help detract from the gouging prices but if the economy gets any worse it just won't be feasible.

Maybe in a few months I'll be signing a different tune but for now the future is definitely clouded.
